The Week in Review at VDS

We continued CAASPP Testing this week!  The students are doing an excellent job focusing and putting forth their best effort to showcase their knowledge on the assessments.  Go Meerkats!

On Tuesday afternoon we held our monthly PBIS meeting.  They discussed the walk-through data and revisited the various school wide expectations.

Mrs. Kobierowski, Ms. Arceta, Ms. Rosas, and Dr. McQuown attended the Authors’ Fair Award Ceremony on Tuesday evening at Bobby Duke.  Mrs. Kobierowski’s class took home a 1st place ribbon in the primary classroom category and other VDS students were awarded 2nd and 3rd place ribbons and certificates for their efforts.  Thank you to Mrs. Kobierowski for coordinating this activity for our students.

Wednesday we held our bimonthly staff meeting and discussed end of the year procedures and provided a testing update.  After the meeting, Ms. Eyre facilitated professional development on Quick Sketch, Quick Write.  She discussed and modeled the process and then had the teachers conduct their own and share with other staff members.

Ms. Eyre attended the ground breaking ceremony at Palm View on Thursday morning.

May 3, 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Through most of the month of May, 3rd – 6th grade students at Valle del Sol will complete the California Assessment of Student Progress and Performance (CAASPP).  Beginning on Tuesday, May 7, students in these grade levels will take the Smarter Balanced tests in Math and English Language Arts on their iPad while also completing a performance task in these subjects in the classroom.  Additionally, the 5th grade students will also take the California Science Test (CAST).  We believe that test results are a very important way of helping the school and parents gain valuable information about student growth being made.  We also want to become the first California Distinguished School in CVUSD and our test results will help us to accomplish our goal.  To help your child do his or her best on testing days, please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest the day before testing, has a healthy breakfast, and attends school on time.  Testing will occur each morning prior to lunch and on certain occasions may continue into the afternoon.  So please, make any needed appointments for your child after school.

Our School Testing Motto for this year was created by Ms. Rosas’ Class:

Meet Every Expectation Remindful of Knowledge to Attain True Success

Thank you for all of your support in helping us make Valle del Sol the best that we can be!

Dr. Sean McQuown
