V.D.S. Winter Program

We had an outstanding turnout for our Winter Program on December 19.  The students showcased their holiday spirit by performing numerous routines throughout the evening.  There were excellent choral performances by the students in every grade levels and the ASES students provided a memorable recital as well.  It was great seeing so many members of the VDS community in attendance to watch the show and enjoy the delicious food items.  We would like to thank all of the VDS staff for helping to make this such an unforgettable evening!

V.D.S. Spelling Bee

The VDS Spelling Bee was held on December 11 for select 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.  Twenty-four (24) students from these grade levels demonstrated their spelling prowess by correctly spelling challenging words.  We would like to congratulate winner Adrian Yamanaka and runner up Israylen Morfin.  Adrian will represent VDS at the District Spelling Bee in January and we wish him the best of luck during the next phase of this competition.

Student of the Trimester

We had our Student of the Trimester Assemblies for each grade level and recognized the students that showed amazing academic skills or demonstrated outstanding Meerkat behavior during the first trimester of the year.

Computer Science Week & The Hour of Code

During the week, we celebrated Computer Science Week.

The students dressed up differently each day to show their spirt for the various forms of technology.   Additionally, all students in Kinder thru 6th grade participated in an Hour of Code on Tuesday with members from the iCenter.  The students also learned about the negative effects of cyberbullying, there was a cyberbullying workshop for parents on Monday Evening, and there were other technology activities for the students to enjoy during lunch as well.  Thank you to Ms. Gonzalez, the iCenter, and everyone else that helped make this such an enriching week of computer science activities for our students.

Buddy Social

On Friday we had a Buddy Social in the library.

Over 50 students and 30 staff members participated in the event which provides a positive role model for at risk students.  The students and staff had a great time interacting and socializing with their buddy.
